Why does my skin and beard get very dry?

Human skin produces a substance called sebum, also known as skin oil. Sebum is spread through the sebaceous glands across almost the entire body, and is located on the skin’s surface through pores or hair follicles. Sebum acts as a thin protective layer on the skin’s surface, maintaining and caring for the skin. This stops the loss of water from your body, leaving your skin hydrated.

The reason why the skin under your beard can get very dry is because the skin’s natural oil (sebum) dries out at some point. This is not only caused by cold or dry weather conditions, but also by, for example, using the wrong products on your face, such as shampoos for your scalp hair or bad soap, which leaves your skin very dry. These products often have an aggressive effect on your skin where the natural oil on the skin is stripped off. This results in dry skin and also an itchy beard.

How does beard oil work?

There are three different layers of the skin: the outer layer (epidermis), middle layer (dermis) and bottom layer (hypodermis or fat layer). When you apply beard oil to your beard and skin, cover the dermis layer to retain moisture and water in your skin. This prevents evaporation, leaving your skin and beard hydrated.

Jojoba oil: Several scientific studies have shown that jojoba oil is similar to the structure and use of sebum. This plays a major role in sealing the hair cuticles, which gives you a softer and smoother beard.

Argan Oil: One of the rarest and most powerful oils in the world. Argan oil plays an important role in the treatment of dry skin. There is twice as much vitamin E in Argan oil than in olive oil, which is then absorbed by the skin cells. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and is especially good at getting rid of free radicals. Vitamin E also protects the essential fatty acids in the body, which is very important in treating dry skin and preventing moisture evaporation.

Grape seed oil: is a very effective skin moisturizer that is easily absorbed through the skin without traces of oil. It is rich in linoleic acid, a fatty acid that helps cell membranes and skin. Therefore, regular use can help treat many skin problems like acne, irritation, itching and dandruff.

Castor oil: Also called castor oil, it has been used for many purposes for centuries. The oil has a fairly thick viscous structure and helps restore dry skin and hair and also stimulates beard growth.
